Sorry, purists.
BMW will be preparing two new M variants to replace the M3 or the HTML4 Competition models. The M3 CS is yet to be revealed, but rumors continue to swirl about the M4 CS. BMW Blog’s latest information confirms earlier speculation that neither vehicle will have a manual gearbox. This publication attributes the news to unnamed sources, though an report earlier in the year also noted the same. Only the CS models will be available with an auto transmission. The M4 CSL will be a better option for those who want a more powerful M model but with a manual transmission. According to rumors, the auto gearbox will bridge that gap between the powerful engine and the standard all wheel-drive system.
A manual is not necessary, but the M3/M4CS/M4CS should see a significant improvement in performance. Carbon fiber and other techniques will be used to reduce the model’s weight. This should go hand in hand with the twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that produces enough power to surpass the 510-horsepower (382-watt) competition models. Although it won’t be able to compete with the M4 CSL’s 550-hp (410kW) M4CSL, it could produce as much as 540 hp (402kW). BMW has not yet announced when the M3CS and M4CS will be revealed, but we think it is possible that they will reveal them in early 2022. The two models will arrive as 2023 models. Although they will be launching sooner than expected, we would love to see them. However, the holiday season and end of the year are fast approaching. According to BMW Blog, the BMW M3 or M4 should retail for around $80,000. This seems reasonable. BMW M4 CSL is likely to be more expensive, as it offers even higher performance and may even remove the rear seats in order to reduce its weight.
