However, a new V8 might be hiding behind this familiar face.
The X7, BMW’s most luxurious and largest SUV, was just refreshed yesterday. However, we know that an update is in development for the X5 family and X6 family. Both the standard and M versions of the models were tested on public roads. Now it is time to see what lies beneath the camouflage. It’s too soon to give an official preview so we will only be sharing unofficial renderings.
Our Kolesa.ru friends have created these virtual drawings that hide the design changes made by the X5 LCI. LCI is shorthand for Life Cycle Impulse (or a mid-cycle refresh) in BMW’s World. These two renderings show that the Bavaria luxury SUV will likely keep its elegant appearance. However, the front fascia will get a refined look.
Expect a pair new, sleeker headlights with modified internal LED graphics. The facelift will not include an over-sized grille or the facelifted split-headlight layout. The X5 LCI will be a simpler model with a few tweaks. This includes a larger bumper and more prominent air openings. You could also modify the lower grille design.
These renderings suggest that there will be less noticeable changes at the rear. New graphics have been applied to the taillights. The bumper lower portion where the diffuser is located appears also to be altered. The rear end can be expected to look the same.
Tech-wise, rumors are swirling about a new V8 engine to replace the N63 engine which has been in use since 2008. The available information indicates that the new S68 unit will have the same twin-turbo V8 engine with a hot-vee configuration, but almost certainly will include some form of electric support. According to reports, the new motor will produce 535 horsepower (399kilowatts) and be slightly more efficient than the predecessor.
