It looks as if it is actually happening.
The latest spy photos of the updated X7 prototype confirm the bold design direction. Bavaria ‘s largest SUV (so far), was spotted close-up with less mascara to reveal part of an LED light strip at the junction of the bumper and hood. It appears that these are the daytime running lamps, which double as turn signals on modern cars equipped with light-emitting diodes. The main headlight assembly is located lower than the bumper. In this case, it had the low beams. This radical appearance – which looks a lot like a Skoda Kamiq – is not only coming to the X7 but also to the next generation 7 Series, and the rumored XM / X8 flagship SUV.
The white paint makes it difficult to see the finer details, but our spy has confirmed that the hood is different. The already large kidney grille on the facelifted model will be slightly wider, and there will also be some changes to the back. The quad exhaust finishers have been updated, although the LED taillights will not be modified in any significant way. The X7 M50i has quad exhausts. However, each pair is contained within one finisher. This prototype has a vertical bar between both the tips at the corners.
It’s not clear if BMW will offer the X7 the new side by side screen configuration of the electric iX SUV or i4. It’s possible that this is too much for a mid-cycle facelift. However, Audi’s revised has done it recently with the electric iX SUV. We expect the camouflage to be removed in late 2021 or early 2022. BMW will no longer make the X7 M50d high-performance diesel engine. The 3.0-liter straight-six unit codenamed “B57S”, is too costly to upgrade to meet increasing emissions regulations.
