It looks very agile, for all it is.
It’s possible to say BMW is equipped with more SUVs than it requires, but there seems to be no shortage of SUVs and crossovers. Bavarian firm is currently working on a new flagship utility. It is currently testing its production body with provisional lights. The hybrid utility was captured on camera as it was being tested on a snowy proving field, allowing it to unleash all its power and go sideways.
The machine’s design is hard to describe as it is almost entirely camouflaged. The front fascia even has fake body panels, giving a false view of how it will look. We can already see that the XM, as it is officially known, will be huge and have a sloped roofline.
We can see the electrified SUV in action on snow thanks to this spy video. The large family car seems to have good traction and enough power to move it quickly from a halt. Although it looks stable in corners, you can see the test driver driving it like a rally car in the first seconds of the video. The engine does not sound during the dance, which is quite interesting.
This is likely a sign of the powertrain under the hood. Early reports suggest that the XM will come with three powertrain options, with the most powerful one combining a hybrid engine and a V8. Based on the XM Concept figures, this version should produce around 750 horsepower (551 kilowatts), and 737 poundfeet (1,001 Newton-meters). A single charge will give you an electric range of approximately 30 miles (48 km).
Although it’s hard to predict when the production version will be available, there are rumors that this could happen this year. If true, the large hybrid SUV will be available for purchase in early 2019.
