The new Chevrolet Silverado pickup is not available in dealer showrooms. If you are a speed snob, it might be visible in your rearview mirror. The 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle is a vehicle specifically designed for law enforcement, both on and off the road.
A half-ton Silverado crew car is the core vehicle. It features the Z71 offroad package and a standard-issue, short bed. The engine produces 355 horsepower from the 5.3-liter V8, which is mated with a heavy-duty air filter. You can upgrade your mechanical upgrades with 20-inch steel wheels, six-piston Brembo front brakes and 16-inch rotors. The standard package includes speed-rated all-terrain tires. Chevrolet offers an optional two-inch suspension lift to departments that engage in more off-road activities.
There are substantial changes inside, as with many police packages vehicles. Vinyl floors are used for the cloth power seats. The 10-speed automatic transmission comes with a column shifter. To make more space, the front-center seat can also be removed from your order sheet. The bed comes with a tri-folding tonneau cover that protects against the elements.
For as many plug-and-play capabilities as possible, Chevrolet prewires the Silverado PSV because most police agencies use aftermarket fitters to make specialized patrol cars. Standard equipment includes a 220-amp alternator, with an optional switch bank that can be used for 30-amp or 20-amp circuits.
Chevrolet isn’t new to the police force. Popular sedans were the Impala and Caprice, while the Tahoe is still offered in PPV. After the end of the B-body Caprice, the SUV was first assigned to police duties in 1997.
