Aggressive design, Italian tech.
Although the Dodge Hornet concept was presented at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, it never saw production. However, this will change soon. American automaker, Dodge, is currently developing a small crossover with the same name. We recently had the opportunity to photograph a prototype on public roads using light camouflage ( ). These spy photos were used by Kolesa.ru to create new renderings of the final production Hornet.
These digital drawings show a very aggressive design of the Alfa Romeo Tonale-based crossover. The bumper’s lower section has a large radiator grille and the area between the headlights has a smaller one. The front fascia design looks like a mixture of Dodge’s current models. There is also a touch Dodge Challenger and Durango in terms of the light clusters, grilles, and other details.
According to these renderings, there is a lack of individuality at the Hornet’s back. There is a coast-tocoast LED strip connecting the taillights and an overall minimalist design. The rear fascia is reminiscent of the Porsche Macan to a certain degree, but in a smaller package. This rendering is only an example and we cannot guarantee that the final vehicle will look any like it, particularly at the rear.
The Hornet will share its engine lineup with the Alfa Romeo Tonale, according to preliminary information. This means that Dodge will sell its entry-level model in the United States with a 1.3-liter hybrid engine. It is capable of producing 272 horsepower (203kW) and the system output of 1.3-liters. An electric range of more than 30 miles should be possible with a 15.5-kilowatt hour battery.
Customers can also choose a 2.0 liter turbo-four that produces 256 horsepower (191 kW) or 295 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters). European customers will be able to choose from a 1.5-liter mild hybrid and a diesel option.
Already, the official debut of the Hornet in 2022 was confirmed. It will be produced at the Pomigliano d’Arco Assembly Plant, Italy.
