It joins the electrified hatchback, which was launched in Europe this week.
Honda is catering to people who value efficiency more than performance, while Type R enthusiasts wait patiently. The Civic Hatchback E:HEV was launched in Europe earlier in the week. Now, it is presenting the Sedan version in Thailand. The electrified saloon is shown here in the sporty-looking RS trim. It uses the same hybrid setup that its Euro hatch counterpart.
The Civic Sedan e.HEV’s heart is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The four-pot engine runs on the Atkinson cycle, and is paired with two electric motors. The hybrid powertrain produces 181 horsepower (135kilowatts), and 315 Newton-meters (223 pound-feet). These are good output figures, considering that the spicy Civic si has 19 horsepower (14 kW) less while delivering 55 Nm (40.5 Lb-ft) more torque.
The e:HEV weighs more than the Si, once you add the two e-motors to the equation and the 72-cell lithium-ion batteries. Honda boasts that the combustion engine is capable of achieving a thermal efficiency of 41%, which is one of the highest among road legal production cars. The Civic Si’s six-speed manual gearbox and e-CVT are far more sporty.
This full hybrid also has a limited electric range, which is great for efficiency. The Honda has the car currently on display at the 2022 Bangkok Auto Show, Thailand. It features a black sedan with 18-inch wheels and chrome-trimmed doors. The car also features flashy red “RS”, as well as contrasting stitching of the same hue on the seats covered in synthetic leather.
Honda Thailand will put the Civic Sedan e.HEV on sale starting June for 1,150,000 Thai Baht, which is the base EL+ trim. At current exchange rates, that works out to approximately $34,300. You can upgrade to the RS shown here for 1.27 million THB, or about $37,000.
The TypeR will be the most interesting addition to the Civic lineup. The Civic Type R will be revealed later in the year as a hatchback equipped with a manual gearbox, and a gasoline-only motor.
