2023 Honda Civic Type R Teased In Full Camo

Although the center-mounted triple exhaust will remain, it now has a new configuration.

Although Honda has not yet revealed the new Civic Si model, the Japanese marque seems eager to show off the Type R before its 2022 release. It will travel to Nurburgring to perform additional testing. But, before it does, the hot hatchback is posing in full camouflage for the camera. The Brembo red brake discs and the grippy Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires are already visible.

The large plastic bits at its back, which were supposed to be faux air vents, are gone from the Type R. The center-mounted triple exhaust remains, however, the tip at the middle is larger than the ones to the outside. The old version had a smaller middle exhaust tip that acts as a resonator. The rear wing is now positioned slightly higher on the tailgate, and has a flatter profile.

The Type R is a much cleaner version of the 2022 Civic. It also has a less busy design. The Type R’s front looks more aggressive, with a bigger lower intake and what we hope are real vents hidden under the camouflage of red and black. The upper grille is chunkier and features a honeycomb pattern that is slightly different to the standard Civic Hatchback.

Honda is keeping the details of the Type R and Si models secret. However, we know that both will be equipped with a manual transmission. Although wild rumors suggested a hybrid powertrain of 400 horsepower and AWD for the hot hatches, the latest information suggests that it will be an evolution from today’s 2.0-liter FWD recipe.

Type R for Racing:

When it arrives next year, the Civic Type R will be last Honda to have a pure gasoline engine. The Si’s arrival in North America is expected to be imminent.
