Honda keeps it simple with its new crossover.
The Honda CR-V has been the most popular model in the brand’s history. A sixth-generation version of the model is currently under development. The crossover was first spotted in spy shots last year, but Honda has yet not revealed the redesign. A patent image published last year shows what the vehicle might look like. It looks very boring. TopElectricSUV.com has a new rendering that gives life to the design.
The rendering replaces patent image’s dull grayscale with a bright, deep blue exterior. This gives the rendering a more dynamic look. It highlights the car’s contours around the lower doors and gives the front and hood more definition. The next-gen CR-V follows the Civic’s styling trends and has a simpler face than the model it replaces. The CR-V also looks older.
The rendering adds chrome touches on the grille, greenhouse, front end and grille. While the spoiler and lower portion of vehicle are black, it adds some contrast to the overall design. The vehicle’s dimensions are not conveyed in the rendering and patent image. As the smaller HR-V was larger, the new CR-V will likely grow in size.
Honda has not yet provided a patent image of Honda’s rear. The only patent image that we have seen shows that the tall taillights of the model are not going away with the new design. Although they aren’t visible in spy photos, it is easy for one to imagine them hidden beneath the camouflage.
The powertrain is another thing that the rendering cannot show. The car has dual exhaust tips in spy shots, but it is not clear what powertrain will be used to drive the new model. Honda could offer the crossover with electrified engines, and there are rumors of a fully-electric version once the new crossover becomes available.
Honda has been very quiet about the new CR-V and has not yet announced a launch date. It is expected that Honda will unveil it this year, with the goal of having it available in the US by 2023. We expect Honda to begin to remove some camouflage in the lead up to the CR-V’s unveiling.
