The livestream begins at 8 PM Eastern.
Since the fourth-generation RX was introduced in late 2015, it is now that the time has come to reveal the next generation of Lexus’ luxury crossover. Toyota’s premium brand has been very tight-lipped about the new model. However, one teaser image revealed that there was a 500h model. The model is expected to have a turbocharged four cylinder engine and an electrical motor, which would give it a combined output well above 300 horsepower. However, that remains to be confirmed.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the RX is a hybrid-only model, at least in certain regions like Europe with stricter emission regulations. It will be interesting to find out if the V6 will continue in the fifth-generation model, or if Lexus plans to sell the crossover only with four-cylinder engines. We are told by Logic that a plug-in hybrid powertrain will be available now that the Japanese brand has finally adopted PHEVs. This is a lot later than the competition.
Keep in mind that the current model has third-row seating for RXL models, making it unclear whether the Mk5 model will be retained. This might not be possible if Lexus is working on a separate, three-row TX model which will arrive in the United States next spring.
The 2023 RX will likely have a different platform, which is most likely to be a variant of Toyota’s global TNGA. We expect the luxurious family hauler to come with an extended wheelbase and the latest touchscreen infotainment system from Lexus.
The RX will be the latest update to the crossover lineup. It follows the 2023 and the pure electric RZ450e.
We’ll have all details soon as the livestream will begin at 8 pm Eastern Time. The RX will be available in the United States as a 2023MY by the end.
