Mazda will increase its range of crossovers with the addition of CX-50 later in the year. The CX-50 is positioned as a more rugged version of the CX-5. Although it’s slightly longer and wider than the CX-5, it’s still relatively small in size and price. Mazda launched the CX-50 in November. We are just learning about its price. The entry-level CX-502.5 S has a wide range of standard equipment, including wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, eight-speaker stereo system, push-button starting, blind-spot monitoring and blind-spot warning. The crossover is powered by a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated Skayactiv-G engine. The entire lineup comes standard with all-wheel drive. The 2.5 S Select upgrade adds dual-zone temperature control, leather-wrapped shifter, steering wheel, 40/60 split folding rear seats, and an additional 10.25-inch central display to replace the 8.8 inch unit. The 2.5 S Preferred includes additional convenience features such as heated side mirrors and windshield wipers. It also has an eight-way power driver’s seat. It starts at $30 725.
Mazda offers the Turbo trim, which adds a turbocharger and 2.5-liter engine to its upmarket model. Mazda can add Towing, Off-Road and Sport modes to the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. Adding to the sportiness are steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Additional visual enhancements include larger exhaust pipes and LED taillights. The Turbo, like the CX-50’s 2.5 S line, offers several packages. Turbo Premium adds to the standard Turbo with a Bose 12-speaker sound, satellite radio, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheel. Turbo Premium Plus also includes a frameless, auto-dining rearview, heated rear seats and a wireless charger.
Mazda also announced the Turbo Meridian Edition model, which will come with 18-inch wheels and all-terrain tires. It will also get side rocker garnish, unique hood graphics, and other outdoor-specific accessories. Mazda did not elaborate on these accessories but will provide more information, such as pricing, closer to the on-sale date. The CX-50 will have premium paint colors. This includes Polymetal Gray Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic. Wind Chill pearls are available for an additional $394.
