You can hear the V8 exhaust note.
The Mercedes SL, which was introduced in late last year, won’t be the only one in the lineup. AMG GT Coupe, a convertible with fixed roofs, will also share the new model’s underpinnings. Mercedes continues to develop the new model. However, a spy video shows the car being tested near the Nurburgring.
Although the video does not capture the car at the famous track, it does capture its loud exhaust note. According to spy photos, Mercedes has at least two versions for the coupe. It is most likely the GT 53, 55, or 63. This new video shows the AMG quad exhaust tips on the hotter variant. The exhaust note is deep and refined.
The new SL uses a twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. However, it is available in two outputs. The entry-level SL 55 produces 469 horsepower (350 kilowatts), and 516 poundfeet (706 Newton-meters), while the SL 65 is hotter and produces 577 hp (432 kW) as well as 590 lbft (880 Nm) of torque. Mercedes provided the SL all-wheel drive. However, it is not clear if the GT Coupe will sport a 4Matic badge.
The AMG will be the sportier option beside the more comfortable SL in Mercedes’ lines. We are eager to see the company’s plans to distinguish them. In an effort to reduce weight, the emphasis on sportiness may be kept in place with the rear-wheel-drive two-door model.
The coupe still wears a camouflage wrap, but it looks sleeker than the car that will replace it. The front is covered in a cladding that obscures the aggressive front bumper, and the larger intakes hiding beneath. The rear is well camouflaged with only the taillights clearly visible through the covers. Although we have yet to see the interior, it may feature a strict 2-seat layout instead of the convertible’s 2+2 arrangement.
Mercedes is expected to unveil the AMG GT Coupe this year. However, it has not yet announced a date. Mercedes may offer a Black Series variant once the AMG GT Coupe is available. Mercedes is working on a plug-in hybrid version of the SL.
