The SL with a fixed roof metal roof is looking great.
Our spies have captured a prototype of the “55” and “63” versions while they were being tested. The roadster’s round exhaust tips make it clear that this is not the coupe AMG. However, it raises the question: Will the GT Coupe be available in a four-pot configuration as well? We could see this happening in certain countries, with high taxes being imposed on large-displacement engine. Mercedes also sells the CLS China with a 1.5-liter engine.
The spy photos above suggest that a four-pot GT Coupe is possible. These images were published just a few weeks ago. It was clearly a yellow car with round tips. This suggests that it was powered by the 2.0-liter M139 engine, which is also found in the SL and AMG’s compact cars. The gasoline mill in the SL 43 has an electric exhaust gas turbocharger adapted form Formula 1 that will also be used in the One hypercar, next and other projects. The spy video shows the prototype, which is camouflaged heavily. However, it gives us the impression that the second-generation model will be sleeker than its predecessor. It should have a fixed-metal roof and an SL, as AMG also designed the roadster. The Sport Leicht is a more relaxed grand tourer, while the GT Coupe is more focused on the Porsche 911.
On numerous occasions, the roadster was seen testing a plug-in hybrid system. This setup might be reserved for the flagship model. AMG already applied the PHEV-V8 formula to the GT 63 E Performance, where the electrified setup produces 831 horsepower (620 kilowatts), and a staggering 1,400 Newton-meters (1.033 pound-feet). The SL now comes with 4Matic for the first time. Could this mean that the 2023 AMG GT GT will also power both axles? This burning question will be answered when the fast coupe is expected to come out of cover.
