2023 Mercedes-AMG Mercedes-AMG S63 Driven At Full Throttle on The Nurburgring

It is estimated that the plug-in hybrid luxobarge will have approximately 700 horsepower.

All automakers are experiencing downsizing, whether it is necessary or not. Mercedes plans to make the C43 and C63 replacements with a four-cylinder engine. This will eliminate two cylinders from each and remove four. The three-pointed star is one of few automakers that still offers a twelve-cylinder engine. It’s not available in AMG S65 form, but as a Maybach S680. A new AMG S63 luxury car is in the works.

The full-size sports sedan was seen working out at the Ring gym ahead of its official debut later in the year. The engine is still powerful, but the engineers have added an electric motor. The new S63 will have a combined output of 700 horsepower. Some whispers suggest a hotter version, presumably an indirect S65successor with more than 800 horsepower.

The electrified saloon is believed to be known as S63e and can be seen tearing up the Nurburgring at full throttle. The car seems quite agile for such a heavy and large vehicle, as the test driver makes a mad dash on the difficult German track. Mercedes wants to ensure that the electrified AMG S-Class is able to withstand a lot of abuse.

We still haven’t been able to grasp the concept of a large luxury sedan taking on the Nordschleife despite watching thousands of spy videos. Mercedes is pushing the S63e in order to resolve any remaining issues before the expected debut later this year. The archrival BMW is working on an electrified and sporty derivative of its next 7 Series. It’s called M750e xDrive, but it will have “only” 560 horsepower.

Mercedes has stated that it will go completely electric by 2030 if market conditions allow. It’s safe enough to assume this will be the last V8-powered S63. It will be fascinating to see how the E63 turns out. A report by Autocar stated that the E63 would lose its V8 in the next-generation model, which is expected to arrive before 2025.
