This hypercar, which is all-wheel-drive, can reach speeds of 124 mph in just 7 seconds.

It is finally here. We finally have the final product, five and a half decades after Mercedes-Benz announced that they would incorporate a Formula 1 engine in a street-legal vehicle. The AMG One is here, and it lives up to all of the promises Mercedes made. It has an F1 engine as its heart. It is road legal. It has a hybrid powertrain that produces 1,049 horsepower (782kilowatts).

“With the Mercedes-AMG One we have more than just pushed the limits. Philipp Schiemer is chairman of Mercedes-AMG’s management board. “The technical challenges in making a Formula 1 powertrain practical for daily road use have undoubtedly pushed our limits,” he said. “Many people may have believed that the project would not be possible during development. The teams from Affalterbach, Great Britain and Great Britain didn’t give up. They believed in themselves. I have great respect for everyone involved and am proud of their teamwork.

F1 Engine in a Street Car

It is the engine that drives the AMG One. Since the 2017 announcement, Mercedes has used a legitimate F1 engine to power the One. This has also caused some frustration when it doesn’t work in street applications. It does work – the 1.6-liter V6 internal-combustion engine spins at a stunning 11,000 rpm, thanks to a single turbocharger and electric assist. To produce 566 horsepower (422 kW), the engine uses double overhead camshafts, dual air spring valves, direction injectors and a complex exhaust gas cleaner system. It still meets Euro 6 emission standards.

Literally and metaphorically, the engine is only half of the powertrain story. The One’s 1,049 horsepower rating and all-wheel drive capability are achieved by four electric motors. The front motor is located with two motors, one for each wheel. They combine to produce 322 horsepower. The gasoline engine is paired with the third motor, which sends 161 horsepower (120 kW), to the crankshaft. The fourth motor is connected to the high-tech turbocharger. Mercedes-AMG claims that it adds another 121 horsepower (90 kW) to this mix. This motor can also recover energy from the turbo by spinning up exhaust gases, which can then be sent to other places.

Electricity for Shocking Performance

Mercedes engineers also spent considerable time working on the One’s lithium ion batteries. It is a plug-in hybrid so it does not have as many batteries as a pure EV. The total capacity of the One’s lithium-ion batteries is 8.4 kWh. Mercedes used a sophisticated liquid cooling system to keep the batteries cool for optimal performance. The automaker was able to reduce the weight of its batteries.

This car has over 1,000 combined horsepower and can maintain a temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. The car can travel 11.2 miles using electric power alone and weighs in at 3,730 pounds (1.695 kg). The One can accelerate from 0-62mph (100 km/h), using all its systems, in just 2.9 seconds. It makes the most of its AMG4Matic + all-wheel drive system and seven-speed automatic manual transmission, which was specifically designed for hypercars. Even more impressive is the 0-124 mph (0–200 km/h), time of only 7 seconds. The AMG One can reach 219 mph flat out.

Suspension and Body

The One’s monocoque chassis and push-rod suspension are also optimized for maximum performance. The aluminum body is made up of five arms and two adjustable support struts at each the front and back. To reduce body roll, the struts are placed transversely in the direction of travel. The suspension can be adjusted for Sport, Comfort, or Sport + depending on which of the many overall drive modes are available. Depending on the drive mode, torque vectoring can also be used with the AWD system.

The body is an example of aerodynamics, as you can see. Although it generates negative lift above 31 mph Mercedes is reluctant to disclose how much downforce is available. It all depends on which drive mode you choose, but the One is full of active aero components. Active spoilers can be found on the front diffuser and ventilation slots in the wheel arches. The rear wing is also active. Mercedes claims that downforce in Race Plus and Strat2 programs, which are under Track mode is five times greater than normal highway mode. Race DRS, a third mode that allows for top speed at low drag, is available.

Interior and Features

Formula 1 is more than the engine and suspension. The AMG One has deeply sculpted seats that offer a clear orientation for your legs. A rectangular F1-style steering column is used by the driver. Two 10-inch digital screens are visible from the dash. You’ll also find F1-style climate control vents and speaker grilles that blend seamlessly into the carbon fiber/leather environment. Power windows are included in the butterfly doors. Air conditioning keeps the driver and passengers cool. A camera can replace the traditional rear-view mirror.

The AMG One’s exterior features special ten-spoke wheels with nine-spoked, forged magnesium wheels. These wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2M01 tires. These wheels were made for the hypercar and feature six-piston disc brakes that grab 15.6-inch carbon ceramic disc brakes in the front and four-piston disc brakes at the rear. It’s easy to see why the One can turn and stop as well as accelerate. Perhaps even more – rumors circulated that Mercedes is looking to set a Nurburgring record for its benchmark hypercar. Could such a run be possible now that the record is set?

We’ll just have to wait and watch. We will also need to find out if Mercedes intends to make any changes to previously reported details about AMG One production. Although the automaker did not announce such information, we know for a while that only 275 units are being planned at a cost of $2 million. Each one has been sold.

However, that doesn’t mean they won’t be seen in public. The 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed will be the venue for the public debut of the AMG One.
