The 2023 Sprinter can be ordered with a maximum of 208 horsepower and 332 lb.ft.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been updated to improve its ability in tough conditions. In the United States, the revised vehicle will go on sale in early 2023.

The 2023 Sprinter’s powertrain lineup has undergone major changes. There’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel and a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. Two versions of the four-pot engine are available. The lower-powered variant produces 168 horsepower (125-kilowatts) and 295 pound feet (400 Newton-meterss) of torque. The high-output version produces 208 horsepower (155 kW) as well as 332 lbft (450Nm).

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, on the other hand, produced 188 horsepower (140 kW) as well as 325 lbft (441 Nm). The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel version had 161 horsepower (120 kW) as well as 325 lbft (441Nm) of torque.

For the 2023 Sprinter, the 2.0-liter, gasoline-fueled four cylinder will be used. It still produces 188 horsepower (140 kW) as well as 258 lbft (350 Nm), of torque.

The Sprinter’s nine-speed automatic gearbox is now standard on all versions. This replaces the seven-speed manual that was previously available for the 2.0-liter turbodiesel. Mercedes claims the new transmission will allow for faster downshifts and better fuel consumption. This lower first-gear ratio allows for greater acceleration.

The Sprinter’s new all-wheel drive system replaces the 4×4 configuration. This latest technology has a torque split that can reach up to 50% for each axle. The old drivetrain could only send 35 percent to the front.

Only the 2.0-liter turbodiesel high-output version is available for the AWD system. Mercedes claims that the AWD system maintains the 4×4 Sprinter’s ground clearance, approach angle and departure angles as well as the breakover angle.

The updated Sprinter range is still not available in pricing. These numbers will be available closer to the debut of the van in 2023.

Mercedes is also working on the next generation of the ESprinter EV for America. It is powered by the company’s Electronic Versatility Platform. This platform has three modules, including the rear-drive axle, the underfloor high-voltage batteries, and the area for high voltage components in the front. The automaker will offer three capacities.

Mercedes will invest EUR50 millions ($54 million at current exchange rate) in its South Carolina plant to build the eSprinter examples in the United States. The second half of 2023 will see assembly.
