The EV craze is not going away.
As far as electric vehicles go, 2021 was a very busy year for Mercedes. The EQA and EQB small crossovers joined the range along with the EQS flagship vehicle and its sportier counterpart . The three-pointed star also showed off a Maybach EQS SUV and a posh concept car at the IAA Munich, where it revealed the EQE sedan. This SUV will be available next year. Our spies captured it on camera, however, in the interim. The EQE SUV was captured in a remote location in Germany. It already has its full production body and final taillights. This suggests that the official debut could occur in the first months in 2022. The vehicle is equipped with a unique set of aero wheels, and it hides a similar design to the EQS sedans.
Similar to the ECE sedan, the SUV-twin has pop-out doors handles that are flush with the bodywork. To reduce drag, the side mirrors are located lower on the doors. These spy photos give the impression of a smaller crossover, but the EQE SUV will actually be much larger considering that the sedan measures 196.6 inches (4.934 millimeters). The EQE SUV will be available in rear- or all-wheel-drive versions by Mercedes to match the sedan. The EQE SUV 350 will have a rear-mounted e motor that produces 288 horsepower (215 kilowatts), and 391 poundfeet (530 Newton meters) of torque. The technical specifications of the 4Matic-equipped model are not known, but it will be more powerful after the addition of an e-motor at its front axle. The SUV could also get a high-performance version, according to recent spy shots of an AMG EQE 53 sedan.
The EQE sedan has an avant-garde interior that is almost identical to the larger, more expensive EQS. Their SUV brothers should share most of these interiors. Air suspension will provide a smooth ride and optional rear-wheel steering (upto 10 degrees) will allow for more maneuverability around town. The EQE sedan will be an EV companion for the E-Class. However, the EQE SUV is an electric cousin to the GLE and will be built on a dedicated platform that was designed exclusively for zero emission models. The SUV will likely have a similar lithium-ion battery pack to the sedan. This means that it should have a 90-kWh capacity and a likely lesser 410-mile range than the saloon. The EQE SUV will be available for purchase in 2022. It will be constructed at the Tuscaloosa factory along with the larger EQS SUV and the gasoline-powered GLE, GLE Coupe and GLS.
