While the F1-engined AMG One hypercar is currently in the news, it’s cars such as the GLC that are the real winners. Mercedes has released the Mercedes C-Class W206, a high-riding version of its C-Class W206 after countless spy shots. It’s not the most exciting car to buy, but it is a popular choice for enthusiasts. The three-pointed star gives the majority what they want: a luxurious crossover packed with tech.
YouTube’s video description reveals the next GLC It will be six centimeters (6.36 inches) longer than the predecessor. We also learn about a “powerful drivetrain that combines top performance with high efficiency,” likely a plug-in hybrid. The C300e sedan, with its 2.0-liter gasoline engine combined with an electric motor that produces a combined 309 horsepower and 550 Nm (342 lb-ft), is a good example. For certain markets, there might be a more powerful PHEV derivative. This is indicated by the “de” suffix.
The new GLC will offer a six-cylinder engine, unlike the C-Class with its four-cylinder-only lineup. We should warn you that the new GLC will be available with a diesel engine for the 400d model. The next EQC will ride on a shared platform with the C-Class EV. However, a fully electric derivative is expected to follow in the latter part of this decade. Both will likely land in America over the next few years.
It’s only a matter time before Mercedes introduces a more costly and less practical version of the GLC. The GLC Coupe will get electrified AMG versions that are powered by four-pot engines. Recently, the hybrid C43 was introduced with 402 horsepower (and 369 pound-feet) (500 Newton-meters), while specifications for the C63 plug in hybrid were revealed the other day: 670 HP and 553 Lb-ft (675 Nm). The equivalent AMG GLCs will have identical outputs.
Following the regular Benz models that are expected to be on sale by the year’s end, the Affalterbach-tuned spicy models will likely arrive in 2023.
