It will be available in the United States during the second half next year.
Mitsubishi launched the most recent-generation Outlander in February. However, in a surprising move, it revealed an updated version the previous PHEV model just a few days later. The world premiere of the next-gen electrified model will be held on October 28. Mitsu shared images of the most affordable variant.
It is difficult to tell the difference between the hybrid and regular gas models, as they seem almost identical. The hybrid model has an additional fuel cap and plug-in Hybrid EV badges on the doors and tailgate. It’s a mirror image of the 2022 Outlander that we reviewed in April, with the exception of the PHEV’s black roof.
The inside is the same. Only the digital instrument cluster looks a little different. It features a section dedicated to the PHEV powertrain and shows the battery’s current state. The cabin offers three rows, which was not possible with the plug-in hybrid.
Although technical specifications are still unknown, Mitsubishi confirmed that the Outlander PHEV has been given more power and a larger pack of batteries to provide greater electric range. A juicy rumor has it that a performance-oriented derivative would bring back Mitsubishi’s Ralliart tuning division to produce a spicy version. This would even allow Evolution to be resurrected.
The Outlander PHEV will be available in Japan from mid-December, before making its way to the United States in late next year. You can choose from 10 exterior colors, including a new Black Diamond shade. The SUV also comes with large 20-inch 2-tone wheels that are shared with the gasoline model.
