It’s time to give a facelift to the sedan.
Although the sixth-generation Nissan Altima has been around for two years, a new design will arrive on the road by next year. New spy photos reveal that Nissan plans to refresh the sedan mid-cycle. This should happen for the model year 2023. It is not clear that Nissan is making any changes to the model. However, a camouflage wrap covers the front fascia where most of the design changes will be made.
Camouflage may conceal a new front end, which is more aggressive than the model before it. This means that Nissan will likely give the Altima new headlights and a refreshed grille. The new design flows with the rest the car’s styling. Although the rear-end is fully exposed, there are no noticeable design differences. These might be added later in the car’s development process.
In the new model, the Altima’s two current powertrains will remain unchanged. The new sedan will be available with either a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine or an optional turbo four cylinder engine. However, both engines will be paired with a continuously variable transmission. The turbo engine will produce 248 horsepower (185 kW) and the 2.5-liter will continue to produce 188 horsepower (140kilowatts). The interior should not be affected by the update.
The 2023 Altima will come with a variety of standard safety tech. Nissan has added the Safety Shield 360 to its standard equipment. The new Altima will be revealed mid-2022, according to rumors. It is expected to go on sale in 2023. The Altima’s sales decline could be reversed or slowed by the refresh, but sedans and small cars continue to fall in sales. Is a new face enough to save Altima’s future?
