It will be competing with the Renault Arkana for the main coupe-SUV segment.

The coupe-SUV market was once dominated by luxury cars. But the Renault Arkana is now the “poor man” BMW X4. Peugeot was spotted testing an SUV-sized French car. It is believed to be based upon the new-gen 308 hatchback, and the SUV duo. You’re probably thinking: How does this fit into the Lion’s lineup, considering that the Lion already sells both the 2008 and the 3008.

It’s more expensive than the other, but it will be a stylish (debatable I know) alternative. After being beat with the coupe stick, it will lose some rear headroom and cargo space. Although the new Peugeot model was spotted as a test mule, it is now a production-ready prototype.

Although the rumor mill claims it will be called “4008”, your guess is as good or worse than ours about its name. This would not be the first Peugeot to sport this moniker, as a small crossover with the same name was made by Mitsubishi between 2012-2017. It was based on the ASX. It will be assembled in France at Mulhouse’s factory, where the 308 is manufactured. We know it has the codename “P54”.

Stellantis’ product roadmap for 2022 includes a “C Crossover”, complete with a plug in hybrid powertrain. The Peugeot 4008 will be the successor to the electrified 308 as well as its sister model, Opel Astra. Expect the EMP2-based coupe/SUV to produce 225 horsepower combined, a 12.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and an 81-kW electric engine. Front-wheel drive is also possible.

Peugeot has been very quiet about the Arkanafighter. However, we don’t think it will be surprising if it is unveiled at its home show at the 2022 Paris Motor Show in October. Europe sales should begin before the year ends. It will likely be more expensive than the equivalent 308 wagon or hatchback in terms of pricing.

Arkana and the 4008 won’t be among the most compact coupe-SUVs on the market. The VW Group also has the ID.5 (electronic) and Enyaq.
