Land Rover’s new Range Rover was unveiled last October. Now, it is unveiling its Sport sibling. The dynamic variant, like its larger and more luxurious counterparts, will be conservative in design and adopt an evolutionary approach to design. Even though the Mk2 model has been updated, it still looks great. The third generation should be even more impressive with modern refinements to the design.
Although it may look more alike, 2023 Range Rover Sport The MLA Flex architecture will greatly increase torsional stiffness and make the Mk3 a completely new model. The Mk3 is packed with technology, including all-wheel steering and air suspension, torque vectoring, and a plug in hybrid powertrain. A pure electric variant will be available alongside the ICE- and PHEV models.
The fullsize Range Rover should be the model, so the Sport should have BMW power. We’re referring to a twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8 with 523 horsepower and 553 lbft (750 Nm) torque. These figures are familiar – they’re exactly what power you get with the M Performance versions of the X5, X6 and X7, which have their M50i suffix. The M550i, M850i and M850i also have the same engine.
Spy shots revealed that there will be an SVR variant with more power. This one is expected adopt the BMW S63 engine, which produces over 600 horsepower as seen in full-sized large M models. Land Rover is slowly moving away from the supercharged V8 as it becomes more difficult to comply with stricter emission regulations. This is especially true when Euro 7 arrives in a few more years.
The 2023 Range Rover Sport will be available in smaller versions with the 3.0-liter inline-six engine and mild-hybrid technology. Customers will be able to choose between 355- or 395 horsepower configurations, which will likely significantly lower the BMW V8-powered model that is expected to cost six figures.
The Range Rover Sport EV will be the most expensive, and it is expected to arrive in the next few years. It is too early to know if it will adopt the dual-motor setup of the BMW iX M60, or if Land Rover will use its hardware.
