2023 Subaru Legacy Midcycle Makeover: Sport Trim A Turbo Engine

The new sedan features a fresh face and more technology throughout the line-up.

The Subaru Legacy, like many sedans, is experiencing dwindling sales. Subaru has given the seventh-generation Subaru Legacy its mid-cycle refresh. The 2023 Subaru Legacy will be available at dealers starting in the fall. But will the redesign be sufficient to reverse the slide in sales? The year has seen a drop in Legacy sales by nearly 10%.

Redesigned front fascias are a great place to start any refresh on the Legacy. A new front bumper is added below the larger grille, and LED headlights are restyled. The 2023 Legacy is available in the following trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport and Limited.

Subaru gives the sedan the latest version of EyeSight Driver Assist technology, and also features a Wide-Angle Mono Camera for the Touring XT. This wide-angle camera expands your system’s view and makes it easier to identify pedestrians and cyclists at low speed intersections. Automatic emergency steering is now available on models equipped with blind spot detection with lane change assistance and rear cross traffic alert.

The Legacy Sport will see a major change in 2023. The 2.5-liter boxer four cylinder with naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine has been gone. Subaru’s turbocharged 2.4-liter engine will power the trim. Subaru’s styling further enhances the engine’s performance. It produces 260 horsepower (193 Kilowatts) as well as 277 pound-feet (376 Newton-meters) torque.

The 2023 Legacy Sport will have a red accent on the grille, while gray is used for its side mirrors and trunk spoiler. The Premium trim adds a sport-tuned suspension to the package, as well as a moonroof and LED fog lights. Subaru adds safety features such as reverse automatic braking, and a driver distraction mitigation program.

All Legacy 2023 models come with Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. The 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated boxer engine is Subaru’s entry-level model. It produces the same 182 horsepower (135 kW), and 176 lbft (238Nm) for the 2023 model years. Pricing information will be available closer to the car’s scheduled on-sale date.
