It is more like the Toyota BZ4X that we had hoped.
Subaru Solterra will be its first electric vehicle. In some teaser images, the electric crossover appears. After playing around with Photoshop, one of them shows the profile of the vehicle.
The Solterra is able to ride on the eSubaru Global Platform. Subaru confirms that the vehicle has all-wheel drive. This suggests a two-motor powertrain. Details about the battery and range are not yet available.
Although the Solterra was known to share parts with the Toyota BZ4Xelectric cross-over, these photos revealed striking similarities in design. They are nearly identical. Only difference is that the front flares of the front fender flares are matte, instead of glossy on BZ4X. The Subie’s roof has the same color as its body and is not black.
Teaser images include a glimpse inside the Solterra. Even in the dimmest lighting, there are many similarities between the Solterra and the BZ4X. Both have a digital instrument cluster which is high up and away from the steering wheel. A large screen with infotainment is available. A large touchpad is located in the center console.
These photos make us wonder what Subaru will do to distinguish the Solterra from its BZ4X sibling. Selling a Toyota badge-engineered model of the Toyota is not a way to ensure sales success.
The 2023 Solterra will be available for purchase in 2022. Subaru claims the model’s name is derived from the combination of the Latin words “sol”, which means “sun”, and “terra,” respectively. You can sign up to receive updates on , the company’s teaser website for the Subie EV.
The BZ4X production version will be available in 2021. The 2022 launch date is set for sales. It has not yet released details about the powertrain, battery or range.
