The 2023 model year will see 200 of these special editions.
The Toyota GR Corolla has been a hot hatch for a while now, but the brand is adding even more excitement by announcing the Morizo Edition. It might prove difficult to get one, however, as Toyota only offers 200 for the 2023 model year. The launch date is getting closer.
The nickname of Toyota president AkioToyoda gives the GR Corolla Morizo Edition its moniker. This special model takes the Circuit Edition trim level as its base and creates a machine that is even more track-capable.
The G16E–GTS 1.6-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine is still used in the Morizo Edition. However, torque rises to 295 lb/400 Newton-meters (400 Newton-meters) instead of 273 lb/370 Nm for the regular model or Circuit Edition. The Morizo’s peak torque can now be found between 3,250 and 4,600 rpm, rather than the usual 3,000 to 5,500 RPM. The horsepower rating is still at 300 horsepower (224 Kilowatts).
The Morizo Edition keeps the 6-speed manual gearbox but has shorter gearing. The Morizo Edition will have a faster acceleration, but a slower top speed. Toyota has not yet published these specifications for the special model or the regular GR Corolla. Also, the ratios of the differential gears are shorter.
The Morizo Edition is lighter than the 3,292-pound (1.493-kilogram), GR Corolla Circuit Edition. It also has tighter gearing and more torque. Rear seats, rear speakers and rear window regulators are removed. The rear wiper blade is also removed.
The Morizo Edition uses forged aluminum 18-inch wheels with a 10-spoke design instead of the regular model’s casting alloy pieces. Special model uses sticky 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, tires, instead of the regular 235/40 Pilot Sport 4 rubber.
The exterior of this vehicle is also slightly different. Front fascia now features functional front brake cooling pipes. The rear spoiler on the Circuit Edition is smaller than the one found on the Circuit Edition. The Morizo Edition comes in a new model-exclusive Gray color, with a matte finish. Windchill Pearl is also offered.
The Morizo Edition’s cabin features upholstery made of a combination of Brin Naub faux leather and synthetic leather in a black/red combination. Two braces are located in the rear to provide additional structural support. Toyota claims that there is enough space to accommodate four tires on the track.
