2023 VW Amarok’s Big Infotainment Systems Teased, Looks Very Familiar

We have never seen a 12.0-inch vertical screen like it.

Volkswagen continues its strip-tease about the 2023 Amarok, now featuring a preview of its infotainment systems. The German marque showcases a 12 inch vertical screen, which highlights the one piece of glass that covers the panel.

I’ve driven the 2023 Ford Ranger in Thailand before and the large screen is familiar because it’s the same one that will be fitted in the next-generation Blue Oval pickup trucks. This is not surprising considering that the next Amarok will be Ranger-based. As announced previously, this system will also run on Ford’s SYNC4.

Based on what we saw with the Ranger’s touchscreen, most of the Amarok’s in-vehicle control functions can be found within the large touchscreen. These controls include climate control as well as those that are connected to off-roading. Yes, even the switch to turn the rear differential on/off is located within the infotainment. However, we don’t know if this will be true for the 2023 Amarok.

It appears that separate tactile controls are available for air-conditioning. This should allow for easy operation during driving.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles previously teased the rear-end design of the Amarok. It featured a revamped taillights, a stamped tailgate and a V6 badge. It’s not clear if this six-cylinder VW TDI will be a genuine VW TDI, or a carry-over from Ranger.

Volkswagen revealed some details about its 2023 Amarok including an increase in size. It will be 100 mm (3.93 in) longer than the previous model and 40 mm (1.57 inch) wider than the current model. The payload capacity has increased to 2,645 lbs (1.200 kg) and the towing capacity to 7,716 lbs (3.500 kg).

There were five trim levels, namely: Base, Life Style, Panamericana and Aventura. Wheel sizes vary depending on which variant. They range from 17 to 21 inches.

Volkswagen will unveil the 2023 Amarok in July 2022.
