56-Mile Buick Grand National gets its first wash after 34 years

It’s 1987 all again.

The Buick Grand Natal is without any doubt one of the most popular cars General Motors made in the 1980s. The Regal-based muscle car, which is not as common as the GNX, remains a highly sought-after car. It has a good look and a lot of power. It’s becoming harder to find one in perfect condition over the years, but this 1987 example is an exception.

This Grand National has only 56 miles (90 km) remaining. It was barely driven by the original owner before it was put in a garage and sat there for almost 37 years. The owner died a few years back. His wife had originally planned to get the car back on the roads, but it didn’t happen.

The new owner took it on a trailer to make the trip from New York City, New York, to Columbus, Ohio. The Grand National was still riding on its original tires and had to navigate through one of our narrowest driveways. However, it did not stop a 1985 Mazda RX-7 from being moved.

AMMO NYC was assigned to clean and repair the car. The cabin needed some extra care, including removing spider webs from the interior and paying attention to any plastic parts. It was also necessary to clean the engine bay. This restored the original appearance of the turbocharged V6 engine of 3.8-liters that produced 245 horsepower and 355 pounds-feet (481 Newton meters) of torque in 1987.

The new owner did more than just clean and polish the car. He also changed all fluids and replaced the fuel pump and fuel tank. After the Grand National had been dormant for over three decades, the owner finally starts it up in the last section of the video. He has decided to sell the Grand National because “the way things stand today” and lack of garage space.

The video doesn’t mention a price tag, but it ends with his e-mail address in case you are interested. You can find non-GNX 1987 Grand Nationals for sale online. They are in excellent condition and sell for as high as $40,000. These cars are more expensive than ultra-low mileage models. Bring A Trailer sold a 27-mile car last year for $105,000.
