The M5 is a hotter model and will be in production by April 1.
The car to-car refuelling madness that set the longest drift record has ended. Now it’s time for customers to pay attention to something they actually care about: the new BMW M5. In a recent post, a member of the Bimmer Forum revealed that the confirmed Competition Package was just around the corner. BMW claims it will launch in 2018 but production is set to begin at the beginning April.
The revelation was made by BMW’s Head of BMW Driving Experience at the BMW M Ice Experience in Sweden. The information can be trusted because it was shared by a long-standing member of the forums.
The biggest news isn’t about when the Competition Package will be available. A trusted source has also revealed that the optional kit will add 25 horsepower to the biturbo V8 engine. The HTML5 will have 625 horsepower to rival Mercedes-AMG’s 603-hp Mercedes-AMG E63 S. However, the trusted person has also learned that the optional kit will bring an additional 25 horsepower from the biturbo 4.4-liter V8 engine.
The increase in output is just one part of the story. The Competition Package will include several upgrades that will make the M5 more capable on the track. Expect to find standard carbon ceramic brakes, a sharper chassis and a stiffer suspension setup among the list of niceties. BMW will include some special alloy wheels and make subtle changes inside the cabin.
It is not yet known how much the Competition Package will cost. However, it is certain that a fully loaded BMW M5 Competition package will be considerably more expensive than the regular model. The price for the standard version in the U.S. ranges from $138.825 to the most current version with all the bells and whistles.
BMW is expected to unveil the M5 CP at Geneva Motor Show in the first half March, with production starting in April. On the occasion of New York Auto Show, the U.S. debut might take place at the close of the month. The public premiere should be preceded by an online debut, as in most cases.
