All that power will come from a new Theta III engine.

Two-hundred seventy-five horses is quite a bit of power for a Veloce. The high-powered VOLSTER N was launched in Detroit. It is the debut of performance brand Performance Brand in America. It draws its power from a turbocharged inline four engine with a 2.0-liter turbocharged. The Korean marque isn’t stopping there. It may be the most powerful Veloster ever made, and one of the most powerful Hyundais to date.

According to Motorgraph a Hyundai Theta III engine is being developed that can produce 350 horsepower (260 kilowatts) depending on the application. The engine could be found in the Hyundai lineup in 2019 with a maximum power output of 300 horsepower (223 kW) and will debut on the Genesis G80.

The engine will only be used for mid-engined vehicles, even though it is branded Hyundai. We believe the Veloster-based RM16 N concept which we have seen tested on the Nurburgring multiple times, is the most likely candidate…or at least one version.

The displacement of the new Theta III engine will go up from the 2.0- and 2.5-liter Theta engines to a modest 2.5-liter for the G80. The displacement of the Hyundai mid-engined Hyundai will be 2.3 liters. Engineers will add a larger turbo to increase power. The engine is currently being tested with both turbocharged and naturally aspirated versions. This includes front-, back- and all-wheel drive configurations.

Albert Biermann, the boss of Hyundai’s high performance N division, has promised that there will be at most one more hot Hyundai vehicle. Let’s all hope that it will be a mid-engined RM-model – and we hope it arrives soon.
