A Chicago Couple Transforms Subaru Forester Smooshed by Tree into High Art

Never lose your humor.

Make lemonade when life throws you lemons. Make a street statue if life throws you a huge tree over your Subaru. You will be a household name in your area and on social media. That’s the spirit.

This is the story about Joe Mazrimas from Chicago and Diana Levitt. The couple’s 2011 Subaru Forester was just recently damaged by a maple tree. Instead of calling the junkyard to pick it up, the couple decided that they would immortalize their SUV and make it street art.

reported that Joe and Diana placed a sign in the grass near the Forester, announcing its official name, “Smoosh.” A QR code links to a time-lapse YouTube video which shows the tree being removed from the Subaru.

The idea is loved by many people, including the Irving Park neighbors and Reddit users.

Mazrimas stated that he heard thunder during the storm, but there was no sign of a tree falling. He also described the moment when his car was destroyed by the recent storm. “But when the storm subsided, we looked out the window and found ourselves dumbfounded. The massive tree bulls-eyed our car.

Mazrimas initially planned to wait for the insurance company before collecting the car. “But we were getting closer to the date, I felt awful that the car’s body was going to be in front of my house. Then I realized it would be fun to see it as part of the art walk. It was a great experience and people laughed about it.
