German super coupe or supercharged American muscle? Which do you think will win?
The Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz SLS is a stunning car. The Super Leicht Sport’s sleek lines and grand tourer proportions make it one of the most beautiful vehicle designs.
What could be better than the standard SLS AMG model? The Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series is, of course. The AMG GT Black Series predecessor, which is lighter, more powerful and rarer than its predecessor, is always an amazing sight. It can’t match the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
Answering that question, UK’s Carwow put both cars in its usual Drag Race Shootout.
Let’s first compare the numbers to see the straight-line race at high power.
Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series features a revved naturally aspirated V8 of 6.2-liter capacity that produces 622 horsepower (or 464 kilowatts) and 468 pounds-feet (635 Newton meters) of pulling power.
These are amazing numbers, but the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 gets more power from its hand-built Predator V8 engine. The American muscle seeks out help from a supercharger of 2.65-liters to produce 760 horsepower (567 kW) or 625 lb-ft (847 Nm), respectively.
Although you might believe that the Mustang is the superior vehicle, the Shelby GT500 is actually heavier than the SLS AMG Black Series. The Shelby GT500 weighs in at 4,224 pounds (1.916 kilograms), which makes it 807 lbs (366kgs) more porky than the SLS AMG Black Series. This weight difference is equivalent to four adults of average size.
What do you think? Which of these high-powered coupes crossed that quarter-mile mark first. This page has a video that tells the story. We would love to hear your comments below.
