A Dude Makes a Sweet Stealth Camper Van From Chevy Uplander

This minivan is designed for urban living, concealing in plain sight and saving money.

Simon Lamberts, a YouTube user with the handle ForestyForest has created a very clever camper van. It’s not obvious, but you would never know it from looking at it.

The Chevrolet Uplander was not a long-lasting product. It was only around for five years, from 2005 to 2009. Given the long product cycles of minivans, five model years is not a lot. It’s hardly worth second glance, even though it is a curiosity in American automobile landscape.

More small campers for simple living

Lamberts considers this ideal. This van is not about posting photos of the beach on Instagram with the hashtag #vanlife. It’s about practicality and blending in with the city, as well as living rent-free where he chooses to park.

The only clues that you might notice that this isn’t an ordinary Uplander, are the darkened windows and small exhaust pipes for the quiet-quiet diesel heater. The interior is where the real fun begins.

The sliding passenger door opens to reveal an area to refill the diesel generator. While the driver’s side uses this space to store Lamberts’ bicycle, the driver’s side uses it as a garage. A curtain allows you to access the surprising spacious living space behind the old center console.

Each inch of space can be maximized to provide comfort and ease while also minimizing the overall footprint. You’ll be able to see one thing that is conspicuously missing: a sink and a bathroom. These things are not necessary when camping in the city. Lamberts points out that they are just a short bike or walk away.
