Soon, a Supra entry-level Supra will be available in the USA
The Toyota Supra is one of the most anticipated and sought-after revivals of a manufacturer’s nameplate. We are aware of the performance figures for the Supra in the United States. It’s sharing engineering with BMW is something we all know. We all know that the four-cylinder Toyota Supra was launched in other markets simultaneously with the straight-six. When will the four-cylinder Toyota Supra be available in the USA? Following our article about the four-cylinder Toyota Supra in Europe, here’s some juicy information from MotorTrend.
MotorTrend spoke with Ed Laukes (Toyota’s Vice President for Marketing) at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show to discuss the possibility that the four-banger Supra will make it to the United States. Laukes replied that he would keep his eyes open and wait for next week. Next week is the Daytona 500. This race series is heavily supported by Toyota. A 2.0-liter, four cylinder Supra engine was certified for sale in California just around the middle of 2019. It’s clear that California has very strict emission standards. If it works for them, then it will work for everyone else.
There are two types depending on the market. One has 194 horsepower, 236 pound-feet torque, and the other is tuned for 255 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet. MotorTrend believes, and we believe, that we are getting the higher-specced engine similar to the BMW Z4 S30i. The idea of a more accessible Toyota Supra is exciting to us. While it might not be as fast as the previous model, it could just be as enjoyable. We will have to wait to learn more until next weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for this one.
