Legos have become an integral part of automotive culture. They allow kids old and young to build anything they like. Many people create their own cars while others build replicas of real-world models. This has led to the creation of life-sized recreations. While these can take many months or even years to build, the work can be done in a matter of seconds. This is what one group experienced with Lego builders.
The Sheffield Lego User Group constructed the life-size Lego Jeep. It was a replica of a WWII-era Willys Jeep. It took over two years for the group to complete. Two builders tried to climb inside the Jeep for photos, but it didn’t take long. The first person managed to get in and out of his driver’s seat easily. The second person is the one who has trouble.
He carefully climbs in, worried that his build wouldn’t support him, but he manages to get in. He is unable sit down to take his photos. While people on-camera take some photos, the build is still there. However, a change in his weight causes the whole thing to collapse, with his feet pounding the floor.
The video shows the Jeep being assembled in large sections. The video also shows the basic frame of the build, which is held up by jack stands and no bracing beneath the floorboard. The entire structure gives way completely without bracing, scattering thousands of Lego pieces across the floor.
Although it was sad to see two years worth of hard work go unfinished, it was at least completed. It would be devastating to finish it only to have it destroyed. However, that is a risk that comes with the hobby. It’s not necessary for builders to be crazy with their builds. There are many Lego options that can make the most amazing automobiles available to anyone, at any age.
