Longer, lower, wider.
The Chevrolet Corvette’s mid-engined Corvette is fast approaching. Despite a delay which delayed its debut by six months, some fans and savvy insiders have begun to leak the specs of the Corvette ahead of its 2019 debut. This latest image is courtesy of the MidEngineCorvette forum. It compares the measurements of the new mid-engined model against the current.
The new C8 will be larger than the C7 in terms of size, although the wheelbase will be roughly the same. The wheelbase of the current C7 measures 106.7 inches. The C8 will stand slightly shorter from the ground than the C7 at 48.6 inches. The C8 will likely be shorter than the current 48.6 inches tall due to its raked windshield which creates a dramatic angle that is different from the current C7.
These measurements are based spy images, so they are not exact science. Chevrolet has not yet released official numbers on the new C8. If they are correct, these numbers indicate that the C8 Corvette is almost identical to the Ferrari 488 (length 179 inches, width 77 1/2 inches, height 48inches), as well as other vehicles like the McLaren 650S or Ford GT.
These figures show that the new C8 Corvette will have a lengthened, wider, and lower body than the current model. It will also be a little longer. We know it will be quicker than the current model. It could be offered with the same 460-horsepower (343 Kilowatts) or 465-pounds (630 Newton-meters), of torque V8 out the box as the C7. However, it could produce up to 650 hp (484 Kw) or 1,000 hp (745kW), depending on which trim.
Next summer, the new Corvette mid-engined will make its debut. Stay tuned for more information.
