A Mid-Engined Viper that Never Was Rendered

A Mid-Engined Viper that Never Was Rendered
The original is a bit off-putting now.

The story of how a secret project to build a mid-engine Dodge Viper during the mid-1990s led to the creation and rebirth of the Ford GT several years later. It was an amazing tale about what could have been, and now there are a number of renderings that almost materialize the idea. These renderings are amazing, my friend.

More from Abimelec Design

Abimelec Arellano, an independent designer, envisioned a Viper design with a mid-engine layout for the third generation. The attached gallery contains his creations. You can also read what he had to say about them in the comments section.

“My concept is slightly different from that shown in the prototype photos, it’s more production-like with some things like interior materials borrowed form the (at the time) sister company Lamborghini, and without side vents or the hood vents. What do you think? This would be quite a challenge to drive with the V10 pulling the rear.

A Mid-Engined Viper that Never Was Rendered

We couldn’t agree more. The overall proportions of the car are impressive, the V10 is visible at the rear, and the driving characteristics would be amazing. It is perfect in every way: the stance, dimensions, and even colors. It can be described as the American Porsche Carrera GT. It was a missed chance.

Here are more cool viper ideas:

We all know that Chris Theodore was the general manager of small cars in Chrysler’s engineering division in 1995. He then joined Ford, where his ideas led to the first generation of the Ford GT, which was launched in 2005. These renderings make it seem a shame that the mid-engined Viper didn’t happen, but who knows? Maybe the long-distance future for such a project is bright.
