A New Baby Jeep Was Spied for the First Time. Could Launch Before 2023

This could be a slot below the Renegade in Jeep’s lineup.

For seven years, whispers have been going around about a smaller Jeep. Now it seems like the time has come. New spy photos have captured a compact crossover that will sport the Jeep badge when it debuts. This compact model will be below the Renegade in Jeep’s lineup, which may limit its availability.

The new Jeep will reportedly ride on the PSA Group’s CMP architecture, which underpins both the Opel Mokka as well as the DS 3 Crossback. In early 2021 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group merged to Form Stellantis, which is already producing new models. Jeep will not build it alongside the French models. The new Jeep will instead roll off the Polish assembly line along with the Fiat 500X and Alfa Romeo Brennero.Spy shots of the crossover are shown wearing a camouflage wrap around its body, including the grille, headlights and rear windows. The short overhangs give the crossover an athletic look. The rear is as well covered as the front with the taillights hidden.

Jeep will have flexibility with the powertrains that it can offer, thanks to the CMP platform. We expect an all-electric model to follow. Jeep will have a single electric motor that produces 136 horsepower (100 Kilowatts), and a 50-kilowatts-hour power pack.

A hybrid powertrain will be offered by Jeep, which could include a gasoline or diesel engine. It may also have an eight-speed manual gearbox, or a six-speed auto. The most likely candidates for powering the new Jeep are the Mokka or Crossback powertrains. Although there was speculation that the production of the baby Jeep would start in July 2022 according to previous reports, that seems a little too early considering we are just starting to see our first test mules. Our sources tell us that the new Jeep will be on the market by the end of this year. It is smaller than Renegade so it might not be in North American showrooms . But don’t rule out it. Americans still love crossovers.
