A Police Officer Remains Cool Under Fire and Spins Out His Jeep in Dramatic Chase

The suspect fired several shots at the Oklahoma State Trooper, hitting the windshield multiple times until a PIT maneuver stopped the pursuit.

The term staying cooler under fire refers to the above video. The video shows about two minutes of dramatic, high-speed pursuit during which an armed robbery suspect shot and killed an Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer. Although the video ends with the trooper spinning off the SUV, that’s not the end.

According to the Police Activity YouTube channel, the incident took place on April 2. Oklahoma Highway Patrol received a report about an armed robbery suspect driving black SUV. We can see that it was a new Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The suspect was not cooperative with troopers and refused to stop on the highway near Oklahoma City.

Trooper Brack Mills is seen from three angles. He starts to dodge bullets at the 24 second mark. A second shot is taken at 50 seconds. Miller then attempts a PIT maneuver, which he calls “ugly”. This is a surprising casual tone considering that he’s being shot at. The footage jumps to a later part of the chase and we now see at least one bullet in Miller’s Dodge Charger pursuit car.

Miller’s third attempt at a PIT sends the SUV off the road. Miller continues to take more shots. His tone is borderline unnerving as he radios TVI TVI. This indicates a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, which ended the pursuit. Miller stops and inspects the damage to his vehicle. We can see two bullet holes on Miller’s windshield. Yikes.

Although the pursuit ended, the situation was still dangerous. According to KFOR reports, the suspect was armed and carrying an AK-47. He also barricaded himself inside the SUV. This led to a standoff on Interstate 44 that resulted in the highway being closed for several hours. Two officers were reportedly injured but will make a full recovery. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
