Acura MDX Prototype Revealed. Previews Sharper SUV and Type S

The MDX Type S comes with a turbocharged V6 engine and 355 horsepower.

Acura has nailed it with its latest RDX crossover, and TLX sedan. The cars have been completely redesigned to meet the increasing demands of luxury consumers. The three-row MDX has been given the same treatment. We are now able to see the MDX Prototype, which is pictured here.

The final product should look very similar to what you see, despite the official name. The MDX features a longer hood and a diamond-shaped grille, both from the RDX. It all looks great.

The MDX Prototype’s body is shorter, wider, and longer than the previous model. Additionally, the wheelbase has increased by 3.0 inches. The MDX Prototype sits on a pair of 21-inch wheels. The SUV’s profile is more aggressive thanks to bulging shoulders and a bigger greenhouse that sits further back on the axle. To top it all, the MDX prototypes shown here sport unique Liquid Carbon or Performance Red exterior finishes. These two colors are likely to be used in production.

The MDX’s interior also draws inspiration from its siblings. The brand’s True Touchpad Interface manages the cabin’s new tech. There are also modern high-quality materials throughout the cabin, such as metallic flake accents and polished aluminum trim pieces.

Acura also points out improvements in cabin space. They cite more headroom for the first and third rows and a panoramic moonroof that extends across all three rows. This gives the space an open, airy feeling. The front seats have 16-way power adjustment and nine-way massage function.

The Acura MDX base model will receive a new 3.5-liter V6 and 10-speed automatic transmission. However, we don’t yet know how much power it will generate. The MDX produces 290 horsepower and 267 pounds-feet of torque from its V6. The MDX Type S will feature the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 355 horsepower (265kilowatts) as well as 354 pound-feet (354 newton meters). Power is sent to all four wheels via the fourth-generation SHAWD system, with Brembo stoppers at every corner.

The 2021 Acura MDX will be in its final form by the end of this year, before it goes on sale in early 2021.
