These supercars of evil are back in black for side by side racing.
However, the source of their power is very different. The Audi, a Lamborghini dressed in a German suit, has a naturally-aspirated V10 of 5.2-liters that produces 602 horsepower (449kilowatts). The NSX, however, combines a twin-turbocharged, V6 engine with three electric motors to produce a hybrid 573 hp (427 kW) but it is slightly heavier than the Audi. The NSX is also slightly less powerful than the R8, making it the underdog of this challenge.
Track Day brought these supercars onto a runway for three side by side races. There were also two standing starts to make the most of all-wheel drive grip. Despite being slightly slower in power and weight, the NSX manages to gain a slight advantage at start. The Audi pulls off a single roll race at 30 to 145 mph, but with more power under the engine covers, the V10 is faster than the hybrid V6.
The real question is how the NSX’s hybrid wizardry and its electric power can keep the old-school Audi, with its V10 high-revving engine, at a standstill. While the NSX has an immediate advantage in launch due to its electric power, the R8 is lighter and more powerful when it moves. This matchup of mid-engine competitors is very interesting, but there’s a clear winner at end of day. The final result of the supercar battle will be shown in the video.
