Tree: 1, AMG: 0.
Rear-wheel drive, 503 horsepower and an untrained driver are what we call a recipe to disaster. Video taken by CarSpotterQVS of the weekend in The Netherlands. It shows a man driving a Mercedes AMG C63 S Sedan, trying to impress the crowds as he leaves the 100% Auto Live car event at the Rotterdam Ahoy.
This type of accident is not something you have seen before, even if it’s your first time browsing the Internet. This is exactly what happened. The driver thought he could maintain control of the powerful RWD machine while letting the AMG’s tail go into the corner. There were many reasons things didn’t go according to plan, but the most important thing is that both driver and front passenger made it out safely.
It’s obvious that the vehicle’s bodywork was damaged by hitting the curb and smashing into the tree. The fuel cap is missing, the quarter panel on the passenger side and the rear door on the driver’s side need serious care. It’s likely that replacing the deployed airbags will cost a lot.
It would be interesting to see if the insurance company will write off the claim. However, it all depends on whether there have been any structural damage. Although it may seem repairable from the outside, a deeper inspection will reveal whether the car is worth the effort, especially as the repair cost will be high.
Aftermath footage shows an Audi A6 Avant police car arriving on the scene to assist with clearing the roads. A tow truck then removes the AMG sedan.
These videos will probably be less common with the next-generation C63, which is confirmed to be a plug in hybrid. The car is likely to move to an all-wheel drive setup. You’ll still be able throw the rear end, as AMG may give it a Drift mode, just like they did with the E63.
