After 2020, Accent will cease to be available.

The 2018 model year saw the Hyundai Accent lose its hatchback counterpart in the United States. The brand’s entry-level model, which is currently only available in America as a sedan, will be discontinued in Canada.

Hyundai Canada made a surprising decision to discontinue the Accent hatchback after the 2020 MY version has been completed. This decision comes one year after Accent was dropped from Canada by the South Korean company. It effectively leaves Canada without an Accent hatchback.
The Accent was a hit in Quebec, where Hyundai still holds the largest market share in Canada. However, the automaker wants to encourage customers to switch to the Kona because it is more profitable. This explains why the crossover saw a 78 percent increase in sales over 2018 while the Accent saw a significant drop of 54 per cent.

“In the midst the most aggressive product offensive Hyundai history, we are rapidly increasing the breadth and depth our successful product portfolio,” Don Romano (Hybrid Canada CEO) said in an email statement to Automotive News. “The Hyundai Venue and Kona introductions have provided us with great opportunities to provide the best vehicles available to customers looking for entry-level, well-equipped transportation.”

The Accent was Canada’s best-selling subcompact car in recent years. It held this position for ten years, from 2009 to 2017, according to an online publication. The customer base shifted its focus away from the small sedan with the introduction of more practical and fresher crossover options.
