For $15,000, add a supercharger.
Although the 2021 Ford Bronco has yet to be released, there is already an aftermarket company that can swap in a V8. This information was provided by the YouTube channel. It has the inside scoop on Pax Power’s future upgrades. The Texas tuner plans to boost the off-roader’s power, which will please some. However, it won’t be cheap.
Pax Power offers two engine upgrades. One is a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 and one is supercharged. The Bronco will be available with either a turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost or twin-turbocharged V6 2.7-liter. The smaller engine produces 270 horsepower (201 Kilowatts) as well as 310 pound-feet (442 Newton-meters), while the V6 generates 310 HP (231 kW) & 400 lb/ft (542 Nm). The V8 engines will use a different gearbox, but both can be used with a 10-speed manual.
People will need to purchase not only the engine, but also a 10-speed gearbox. This is why the conversion’s price tag is so high. The Bronco’s stock Ford engine isn’t compatible for V8 engines or other vehicle systems. It is easier to purchase a new one. The Bronco will produce 400 horsepower (298 kW) with 400 lb-ft (543Nm) of torque from the naturally aspirated upgrade. The output of the mill can be supercharged to get 758 horsepower (565 kW).
The Bronco stock model has a manual, but only the four-cylinder engine. Pax Power will provide their V8 upgrades with a Manual, so that customers can enjoy three-pedal fun on a V8-powered modern Bronco.
Pax Power is only one of many aftermarket tuners who are eager to swap the Bronco’s stock mills with V8-powered beasts. It’s insane to have 700 horsepower in an SUV off-road. Although 700 horsepower is not yet possible, we doubt that the Bronco will have more than 700.
