Polarizing Kona is a great choice.
Hyundai is not wasting time. The subcompact crossover was introduced shortly after the Kona was introduced. The concept is based on Marvel’s Iron Man, and has been modified to look more like a concept.
The retractable door handles and slimmer side mirror caps will be noticed by Keen readers. But the most noticeable modification is the two-tone body with matte grey finish and glossy red accents, derived from Stark Industries’ armored suit.
The Kona Iron Man Edition measures 1.5 inches (40 mm) wider than the regular model. It sits on 19-inch Bidirectional wheels with Iron Man’s mask at the center. It is also wrapped in chunky offroad tires. The headlights are modified with LEDs and the hood is accented in gold to mimic the character of the comic hero.
You might think Hyundai has tried too hard to create this special edition. However, there is a connection between Kona, Iron Man and Iron Man. The triathlon Ironman World Championship takes place in Kona, Hawaii every year. This is where the crossover B-segment has been given its name.
Hyundai claims it will display the Kona Iron Man Edition for a month at Motorstudio Goyang in Seoul, South Korea.
The regular Kona will be available in all major markets later this year, and a fully-electric version will follow it in 2018. Kia will soon introduce the platform-sharing Stonic which will have a more traditional design. It will be revealed live at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. However, an online unveiling is planned in the next few weeks.
