Digital design is not just a shot in dark, it’s also based on an official teaser photo.
Sergio Marchionne’s five year plan for FCA puts Alfa Romeo, Maserati in the lead with a host of new models for both Italian legend marques. The company sporting the trident logo will get the Alfieri Coupe & Convertible, and a sub Levante SUV. Alfa will also add two new crossovers to its lineup, the GTV (a.k.a. Giulia Coupe. We’ve rendered this, and this – the 8C.
The company’s renewed focus on sports cars was further enhanced by the appearance of the 8C, which was teased last week by FCA’s boss when Alfa Romeo’s 2018-2022 roadmap officially was revealed. We’ve rendered the entire 8C’s side profile using the shadowy image of the 8C showing its red silhouette.
In the official teaser photo, the coupe’s low profile looked great. We can only hope that the real thing will look as good as the render. The exterior styling is going to be a challenge, especially considering that the 8C Competizione 2007, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful production cars ever produced, will be the vehicle’s replacement. The original 1931 model is also stunning.
To go with the striking teaser image, some juicy details were revealed by Alfa Romeo. The high-performance machine will be a mid-engined layout with an ordinary biturbo engine. The electrified front axle will transform the 8C from a resurrected engine into a hybrid that can produce more than 700 horsepower. This will allow you to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3 seconds.
It is unknown how much it will weigh but, considering that it will be built on a monocoque carbon fiber chassis, it’s likely to be lightweight. The hybrid component will increase weight, but it won’t matter much considering that the 8C will be about as fast sprinting from a stop as the LaFerrari.
It’s unclear when we will see it. Although we don’t know the exact date, we do know that it will be available in 2022.
