Alfa Romeo Drops Giorgio Platform, Delays Model Launches

There will be two more crossovers in the future

Alfa Romeo will drop its Giorgio platform, which is currently under the Giulia or Stelvio. Jean-Philippe Imparato Automotive News Europe reports that future Alfas will use the “STLA large” underpinnings. Two models that are due to be released in the future will also be delayed by the company.

Imparato hopes that all future Alfa Romeo models will offer some type of electrification. This includes plug-in hybrids. The CEO stated that “if you’re not electrified, then you’re dead.”

Stellantis will publish a five year plan for all its brands in 2022 or 2021. This information will give you a better understanding of the future plans of the Italian premium marque.

Imparato confirmed that Alfa was delaying launch of the Tonale crossover model by three months. The model won’t be available until the summer of 2022, and will not go on sale until then. He wants to make improvements to the plug in hybrid powertrain.

The leaked images of the Tonale production-spec Tonale show that it bears a striking resemblance with the earlier design. The lower fascia is rounded and has larger headlights. You can also find larger taillights.

Brand is also working on a smaller crossover that will fit below the Tonale. According to reports, it will be called Brennero when it arrives in 2023. The model is rumored to be available with hybrid or EV powertrains. Stellantis would construct it in Poland using Jeep and Fiat models built on the same underpinnings. These are likely to be the successors of the Fiat 500X, and Jeep Renegade.

Stellantis decided to make Alfa Romeo more attractive in the United States , rather than trying to reintroduce Peugeot to America. It is preferable to concentrate on existing brands rather than trying to launch new ones.

Stellantis internally is reportedly considering DS Lancia and Alfa Romeo as premium brands that could work together in the development of future vehicles. These models would feature powertrains and technologies not available in other mainstream vehicles from the automaker. These models will be available for the first time in 2024.
