Alfa Romeo Giulia Coupe and Big SUV to be Announced in June

It is expected to produce as much as 641 horsepower, and will use LaFerrari’s hybrid tech.

A rumor circulated a month ago about Alfa Romeo’s plans to remove the Giulia’s rear doors and make it a coupe. It would have more power than the sedan’s 505-hp Quadrifoglio trim. Flash forward to today and Autocar reports that Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ top brass at FCA’s Balocco track in Italy, will make an official announcement about the Giulia Coupe. According to the original report, the juicy specs of the Giulia have not changed. The two-door Giulia will feature an electrified powertrain that incorporates hybrid know-how from the LaFerrari. Although the 2.9-liter biturbo V6 engine is still the heart of the car, the combined output will be 641 horsepower. This would make it the most powerful Alfa Romeo production vehicle in history.

According to rumours, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Coupe may be offered with both two and a five-door. This is in line with the A5 Sportback from Audi and the 4 Series Gran Coupe from BMW. The coupe-modified Giulia will go on sale next month, according to reports. There will be fewer engine options available to help the Germans in a wider price range. Autocar reports that June will be the month Alfa will announce a large SUV, which will take the Stelvio’s place. The brand’s largest car, yet unnamed Castello (the model that will be the brand’s flagship) is set to take the Stelvio to the top. The mild hybrid technology, as well as an electric-driven turbo with a 48-volt system, will be used in the upcoming model. The combined output from the turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine as well as the electric component is estimated to be around 400 horsepower.

It is possible that the big SUV will borrow the platform of the Stelvio. However, due to the additional hardware provided by the hybrid powertrain it is expected to gain 441 pounds (200 kg). Alfa Romeo may offer the model with a seven-seat option to make the most of its larger footprint. Launch date: late 2019.
