They won’t be able to take our dreams away.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is a sedan that costs nearly $200,000 in Italy. It is a track-focused version that requires you to sacrifice certain amenities in order to trim weight, much like Jaguar did with the XE SV Project8.
Since the revival of the 8C and GTV was canceled, don’t expect a new Alfa coupe. Slow demand means that the mid-engined 4C will soon be discontinued. The same can be said about the Giulietta, which will also go extinct later in the year. It is well-known that there are many opportunities in the SUV market. The Stelvio will soon be joined in 2021 by a smaller Tonale, and a compact crossover in 2022.
Alfistis would love to see a new coupe but the reality is that demand won’t justify the development costs. This is especially true when you consider the asking price of the car. The coupe will likely cost more than the Giulia GTA/GTAm which costs EUR180,000 in its home market. However, we can still dream of a Giulia with two doors or a GTAm version. The ideal scenario is that sales of the Stelvio would increase in the coming years, and its smaller brothers will attract a large number of buyers. This would allow Alfa Romeo enough money to finance cars closer to its core. It’s similar to Porsche’s Macan cash cows and Cayenne cash cows that have allowed Zuffenhausen to increase the Boxster/Cayman, 911 and many derivatives.
