Attention purists:
It is likely that Alfa Romeo has not been consistent in its plans for the future model lineup. The Italian automaker had announced in June 2018 that it would introduce a pair of sports cars on the market. However, it was later reported that the project had been cancelled. A month later, Alfa’s CEO stated that he wanted to bring the GTV back to life with another performance model.
Jean-Philippe Imparato stated that he was “very interested” to purchase a new GTV. However, a new report by Autocar sheds more light on what can be expected from the revived model. According to a British publication, the automaker has an ambitious plan for the new GTV. It could evolve into a flagship four-door electric coupe that can compete with the BMW i4 or similar models. This would be a radical departure from the GTV’s sporty two-door model, which was last sold in 2004.
Autocar says that there are many other options being considered for the revived GTV. These include a traditional two-door coupe with retro-inspired styling. Sources close to the subject claim that they have seen plans documents that suggest the new product could compete against the Tesla Model 3 or BMW i4.
Alfa Romeo plans to launch a new GTV as part of its ambitious plan for reorganizing its lineup by the end of the decade. The Italian brand, Imparato, is expected to launch new generation vehicles and brand new nameplates that are based on the same electrified platforms as other Stellantis brands.
