Imparato confirmed the confirmation, as well as the year of launch.
Alfa Romeo just added the Tonale SUV to its lineup, but the company is already discussing future additions. Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo, confirmed to Dutch Autoweek that larger models will be coming. These models will rival the BMW X5, X6, 7 Series.
The upcoming models will be placed above the Stelvio or Guilia in the Alfa Romeo lineup. This is not the first time Imparato has mentioned an additional SUV in their lineup. However, this is the first mention that larger models are being considered.
Imparato stated last year that the new five models will include a smaller SUV to fit below the Tonale. The subcompact crossover will arrive in 2024.
It’s not surprising that the decision to offer larger models is being made. The Autoweek interview with Imparato revealed that he was looking for the highest-yielding segment of the market. China is also in Imparato’s sights, which is not surprising considering the high demand for large vehicles in this emerging market.
Although Imparato did not provide any details about the larger Alfa Romeo models in the future, he did give a crucial detail: the timetable. He also stated that the models mentioned above will be available by 2027.
It is unknown at this time whether the larger Alfa Romeos will use pure ICE or be electric. We can expect these vehicles to at least be electrified, given Stellantis’ goal to make 100 percent of its European sales electric by 2030.
